Visit Iran to See Its UNESCO Sites

Iran is a land of unique culture and heritage. You will be magically drawn toward the mystery in the air, to the ancient buildings, all whispering a different story in your ears when you visit Iran. The Iran tourist attractions are many, but UNESCO has classified certain sites under world human heritage so far. These sites depict the ancient and rich history of Iran. You cannot visit Iran without being enamored by the beautiful architecture, the rich embellishments and the exquisite carvings in the monuments. Tchogha Zanbil: It consists of the remains of a temple constructed during the Kingdom of Elam. Built in 1250 B. The sign of the sudden attack is the large number of unused bricks in the area. Tchogha Zanbil is the best preserved ziggurat unearthed so far in Iran. Persepolis: Known as Takht-e-Jamshid (throne of Jamshid) established by Darius I in 518 B. C. , is a part of the erstwhile ceremonial palaces of the Archaemenids. This site has its base on a terrace-like structure built for the Emperor’s palace, inspired by the architecture of other civilizations but combined in a style peculiar to the ruling dynasty. Persepolis is a favorite hunting ground for archeologists and one of the main Iran tourist attractions. Meidan-e-Emam: When you visit Iran, you cannot miss seeing the Meidan-e-Emam, (Naghsh-e-Jahan Square) which is in Esfehan. Established in 17th century by Shah Abbas I, the Great, it has the form of a square with monuments surrounding it. The structure all around the square has two-storeyed arcades. The mosques and palace at this site are the considered the culmination of the Persian architecture during the Safavid era. Takht-e-Soleyman: It is a complex of palaces and temples built in the midst of Zagros mountains. When you visit Iran, this is a must-see site that cannot be easily ignored. Part of Takht-e-Soleyman is a Zoroastrian sanctuary which was reconstructed in the 13th century. The temples were originally made in the 6th and 7th century. This site is a good example of the development of Iranian architecture before and after Islam. Pasargadae: Chosen as the first capital of the Archaemenians in the 6th century B. C. , this city was established by Cyrus II, the Great, in Pars (ancient Persia). The monuments and gardens here all bear testimony to the glorious architecture of the Persian civilization. Achaemenian Empire emerged as a ruling system in Western Asia consisting of a cultural mix of the ethnic groups living in three continents of Asia, Europe and Africa. Bam: While visiting Iran, you will be surprised by the great number of monuments built during the Archaemenian era. Bam is one more in the list. It is a beautiful walled city on the Iranian high plateau, an important center for trade that has always been known for its well-constructed underground irrigation canals. Soltaniyeh: This is one of the attractive Iran tourist attractions famous for the mausoleum of Oljaytu made by the Mongols. It is an octagonal building with a 50m tall dome around which 8 minarets are erected. The dome is double-shelled built along the same lines as Taj Mahal in India. It is a reminder of the great advances in Islamic architecture and indicative of precise mathematical calculations of Iranian architects. Bisotun: If you want to see the largest inscription in the world when you visit Iran, don’t forget to see this ancient site. There are 1119 lines of cuneiform in three different languages as well as boss reliefs depicted on the face of the cliffs at the orders of Darius I, the Great. You will also be able to see the remains of some other periods starting from the prehistoric to the Median and the Ilkhanid dynasties in the area. The perfect way to visit Iran and see it in its entire splendor is by viewing all or at least some of these ancient sites. They are not only the greatest tourist attractions but also a torchbearer of the ancient architecture of Iran and the region.
